Women House is the meeting point of two notions: gender – female, and space – domestic. Architecture and public space have generally been masculine while the domestic space was both a woman’s prison and shelter: this historical evidence is nevertheless not a fatality as shown by the Women House exhibit. On 1000 m2 of floor space and in some of the Monnaie de Paris’ courtyards, it brings together 39 female artists of the 20th and 21st centuries who take up this complex subject and place women at the center of a history from which they were absent.
